Tsar Samuel is among the most famous rulers in Bulgarian history. He remained in the chronicles with his tragic death, when his heart could not stand the sight of the tens of thousands of soldiers captured and blinded by the Byzantines. During his lifetime, his forbidden love for the beautiful Biliana, which caused her death, was sung by the people, and one of the most famous Bulgarian writers - Dimitar Talev, dedicated a whole trilogy to her.
